Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

In the middle of Jesus’ interaction with His disciples in Mark 8:14-21, He pointedly asked, “Do you not remember?” A major part of our spiritual lives is simply and regularly remembering what our Savior God has done for us. We have examples from the lives of others – both Biblical and personal – that encourage us to live godly lives. In our own lives, we have numerous and often ongoing instances of God’s provision and deliverance. We rest in the fulfillment of His promises, and we rest further in answered prayer. We also have unexpected joys, things that we had not even prayed about. The more we remember these kind interventions of God in our lives, the more powerful is our shield against the fiery darts of doubt and discouragement hurled at us by Satan. “Do you not remember?” – yes, Lord, we do.
