Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Revelation 22:5d declares unequivocally of believers that “they shall reign for ever and ever.” The eternal existence of God, His eternal glory (especially as demonstrated in the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross), and the eternal nature of man are all convincing reasons to believe the promise that we will live and “reign for ever and ever.” Another important reason is the eternal doom of Satan. Revelation 20:10 says of him, “The devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.” Like mankind, the angels were created for eternity and will exist eternally. The book of Revelation speaks numerous times of the holy angels in the presence of God in heaven. The fate of the fallen angels, including Satan, is also forever, for they have rebelled against and rejected the everlasting sovereign love of God. One commentator succinctly summarized the theme of Revelation as follows: “Hell is hot, and Jesus wins.” The eternal doom of Satan is a specific and sobering warning to turn to the eternal goodness of our Savior God, Who wants us to be with Him to “reign for ever and ever.”
