Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Both the presence and personality of Jesus are presented in Revelation 14:1: “And I looked, and, lo, [the] Lamb stood on mount Sion, and with Him an hundred forty and four thousand, having His Father’s name written in their foreheads.” The place reference is debated by good Bible scholars. Zechariah 14:4 is specific in placing Jesus on Mount Zion in Jerusalem at the end of the Tribulation. Also, the usual usage in the Old Testament is of that literal location. However, the immediate context of verses 2-3 refers to heaven, and Zion is used as a symbolic name for heaven in Hebrews 10:22-24. Of course, both interpretations are ultimately true, for Jesus will rescue His followers at the end of the Tribulation and will deliver them to heaven. We should note that each one of the 144,000 was “sealed” (Revelation 7:4) and that not one is lost. The promises of God cannot be broken – not then, not now.
