Sermon snippet – No Sermon November – Part V – Messianic Meditations
INTRODUCTION – There are manifold reasons why Jesus was born. Let us briefly consider the Trinitarian implications of three of them.
- JESUS, GOD THE SON, WAS BORN TO REVEAL GOD THE FATHER TO US
Matthew 11:27; John 1:18; John 14:9 – God is different from us; otherwise, He would not be God. He is One God in Three Persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. When we read the Christmas account, we immediately recognize that it is completely distinctive; it must be, for it reveals the character and plan of God. Because Jesus, God the Son, has revealed God the Father, we do not have to guess or speculate about His nature and His work.
- JESUS, GOD THE SON, WAS BORN TO SAVE US
John 12:47; I John 4:14 – The character and plan of God is revealed to us; at the center of this revelation is the fact that God the Son is the Savior. We are confronted with the stark truth: we need a Savior. The good news is that Jesus was born to save us from our sins. Again, there is no guesswork or speculation. The message is clear.
- JESUS, GOD THE SON, WAS BORN TO GIVE GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT TO US
John 7:37-39; John 14-17, 26; John 15:26; John 16:7-14 – Note the explicit Trinitarian teaching throughout these verses. Note also the strong note of comfort. A powerful ministry of the Holy Spirit is His calming comfort. Perhaps all of us have thought some variation of “I don’t think that I can stand much more of this.” Yet, we overcome because of the Spirit’s tidings of comfort, of comfort and joy – yes, even “joy unspeakable” (I Peter 1:8).
CONCLUSION – Eternal salvation is readily available through faith in Jesus Christ. It is a full salvation, for the entire Trinity is fully involved. May each one of us enjoy the fullness of this season of salvation.
