Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Jesus adds a further promise to the Communion service in Mark 14:25: “Verily I say unto you, ‘I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.’” Matthew, a much longer book than Mark, adds the detail “with you” after “new” (Matthew 26:29), telling us that each believer will live “in the kingdom of God” – heaven – and will have blessed fellowship with the Savior. Revelation 19:6-9 provides a picture of this gathering: “And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, ‘Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to Him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and His wife [the Church] hath made herself ready.’ And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.” Verse 9 then specifically names this event: “And he [an angel] saith unto me [John], ‘Write, “Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb.”’ And he saith unto me, ‘These are the true sayings of God.’” Thus, Jesus is planning to join with us in heaven to celebrate the beginning of our eternity with Him. He will then partake “of the fruit of the vine” with us and fulfill His promise. “Even so, come, Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:20c).
