Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Yesterday, we began to consider the unusual designation “Everlasting Father” (Isaiah 9:6) for our Savior, God the Son, Jesus Christ. As John 10:30 confirms, Jesus is co-equal with God the Father, with an absolute unity of character and purpose. Moreover, he is also the Father of Eternity (a good translation of “Everlasting Father”). He is the Creator of all things (John 1:1-3; Colossians 1:17), including time (Genesis 1). As the Creator of time, He controls it. Time does not impact Him at all. II Peter 3:8 says, “But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as a day.” Note the comparative word “as”; in other words, these two similes indicate that Jesus is above time and operates outside any temporal constraints. Eternity reflects His eternal character and is offered to each one of us through faith in Jesus. In practical terms, the fact that Jesus is the King of Time means that He always has time for us and always will.
