Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Jesus chose to become poor so that He could choose to make us rich. II Corinthians 8:9 says, “For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that ye through His poverty might be rich.” These riches, of course, do not refer to “filthy lucre” (I Timothy 3:3, 8; Titus 1:7, 13; I Peter 5:2). Ephesians 1:3 rejoices, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.” The subsequent verses in Ephesians 1 enumerate some of these rich blessings: election (verse 4), adoption (verse 5), acceptance (verse 6), redemption (verse 7), wisdom (verse 8), revelation of God’s will (verse 9), assurance of eternal life (verse 10), an inheritance (verse 11), and God the Holy Spirit indwelling us (verses 13-14). Even one of these blessings would make us rich spiritually. However, our Savior continues to give more and more: “No good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly” (Psalm 84:11).
