Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

In the midst of His seeming silence (Revelation 8:2-6), Jesus is emphatically at work. Philippians 1:6 promises, “Being confident of this very thing, that He [Who] hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” – that is, until the day that Jesus returns for His own. We cannot see Him just as we are, of course, but He is persistent and will finish what He has begun. As we have studied, the seeming silence of God is actually a divine delay as He completes His work in us. Moreover, II Peter 3:9 says, “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” No, the Lord is not slack. Rather, He is persistent in His efforts to draw all people to Himself in saving faith. May each of us know Jesus as personal Savior, and may we admire and emulate His persistence.
