Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Reading “the Revelation of Jesus Christ” (1:1) informs us of many things, including the centrality of prayer to God’s eternal plan. “The prayers of all saints” arise “before the throne” of God (8:3-4). Since that is the destination of our supplications, it is logical to focus on God’s revealed will as we pray. I John 5:14-15 proclaims, “And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us: and if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him.“ How do we know “His will”? First, since He wants to “give good things to them that ask Him” (Matthew 7:11), we cannot pray for things that are clearly wrong or that are harmful to others. Second, the more we pray, the more we learn Who Jesus is, and we will then know more of the will of God. Prayer accomplishes many things; one result is that we simply draw closer to our Savior and to His beneficent will.
