Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Because Jesus is personal, He possesses personality, a truly beautiful personality (Matthew 9:36-38). Consistent with this core character, Christ extends a personal touch to all. Mark 5:38-43 provides an excellent illustration of this truth. Jesus raised a young girl from the dead: “He took the damsel by the hand” (verse 41). This remarkable restoration of life is a miracle, of course, but it is not the only personal touch in this account. This precious little one was alive, but she had not eaten for some time and needed food. In all of the excitement, this basic need could have been neglected, but Jesus “commanded that something should be given her to eat” (verse 43). This is a fine, personal touch which reminds us that Jesus cares about both the large and the little things of our lives.
