Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Revelation 1:5 states unequivocally that Jesus, the ultimate winner, has “washed us from our sins in His own blood.” The juxtaposition of “our sins” and “His own blood” is both chilling and thrilling, for it reminds us of the cost that Jesus paid to free us from unending separation from Him in hell (Matthew 25:46). We are released from that awful abyss to live forever in heaven; we are also released to live differently now as “kings and priests unto God” (1:6). The idea is that Christians are to be distinctive. We touched upon one great difference last Friday: we can now better understand Scripture (Revelation 1:3 – “Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand”). We are released from our darkened minds (Ephesians 4:18) and illuminated by God the Holy Spirit to comprehend God’s Word (John 16:7-15). Let us be grateful that we can now grasp the precious and powerful Word of God, and let us continue to faithfully study it and “keep those things which are written therein.”
