Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

It sometimes seems that everyone wants more from us. Jesus, however, does not exhaust us. In Matthew 11:28-29, He said, “Come unto Me, all ye that labour, and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” The word “rest” has several meanings, including something that is fixed and settled. Much in this life is unsettled – and unsettling. Everything that Jesus offers is based on His unchanging character (Hebrews 13:8). Spiritually (“rest unto your souls”), He is here offering us not only salvation but also assurance of that salvation. We are secure in Jesus because He loves us to the uttermost (John 13:1), promises to keep us no matter what (John 10:28-30), will present us faultless in heaven (Jude 24), and makes constant intercession for us (Hebrews 7:25). Furthermore, God the Holy Spirit has placed us in the body of Christ (I Corinthians 12:13) and has sealed us unto the day of redemption (Ephesians 4:30). Moreover, Romans 8:35-39 confirms that nothing can separate believers from Jesus. These are just a few references of many which confirm that our rest is fixed and cannot be taken from us.
