Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
“The unsearchable riches of Christ” (Ephesians 3:8) involve everything about Him. In Revelation 1:5-6, we read that Jesus “is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and hath made us kings and priests unto God and His Father; to Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.” “Amen” means “so be it” and is an affirmation of absolute assurance. In other words, He has accomplished all of these things (and more), including cleansing “us from our sins in His own blood.” This finished demonstration (note the past tenses of the verbs) reminds us that God’s love for us is always active. Moreover, it is intensely personal, for our forgiveness was made possible by “His own blood.” Because Jesus “is the faithful witness,” we can be certain that His acts cannot be undone. Revelation 19:11a records His return: “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and He that sat upon Him was called Faithful and True.” His faithfulness, like Him, is unchanging. We can be sure that “the riches of His glory” (Ephesians 3:16) will never wane.
