Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
The last resurrection leads to the final judgment of unbelieving mankind: “And I saw a great white throne, and Him [Who] sat upon it, from Whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God: and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works” (Revelation 20:11-12). It is God the Son, Jesus Christ, Who sits upon this throne of everlasting justice, “for the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son” (John 5:22). Both the logic and symmetry of Jesus as Judge are impeccable: He had died for all men; these people rejected His offer of salvation; and now He must confirm that rejection by dispensing His righteous justice. We should note that all unbelievers – both “small and great” – are dealt with fairly, with no partiality. No one will be able to try to intimidate Jesus with an elitist “Do You know who I am?” Even the most truculent denier of the Gospel will see his “works” out of “the books” and will admit that God is fair (Philippians 2:9-11). There will be no second chance then, but there are many second chances now. This moment is one of them. May each of us be certain right now that eternal salvation is ours through faith in Jesus Christ.
