Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Jesus is our sanctuary right now. Because He never changes (Hebrews 13:8), He remains our safe shelter forever. Revelation 21:22 records the vision of the Apostle John: “And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.” A temple, as a place of worship, is clearly a sanctuary. We find spiritual rest (and, for those who doze off during the sermon, physical sleep) when we gather in God’s house. In eternity, the immediate presence of our Lord will replace a house of worship. There is a sadly ironic reminder here, though, for the Old Testament Temple was not a safe and secure location for a lamb. No, lambs were sacrificed there. The “Lamb” of heaven, Jesus Christ, died on the Cross for our sins so that we could have an everlasting relationship with Him through faith in His finished work. Each person thus must make a decision: receive this offered refuge, or reject present and promised rest. Let us be certain of life eternal in heaven with Jesus, and let us continue in His comfort and calmness.
