Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
We are wealthy in the things that matter because our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is rich. In Ephesians 3:8, the Apostle Paul exulted, “Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles [non-Jewish people] the unsearchable riches of Christ.” The term “Christ” directs us to the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy concerning the Messiah, for Jesus took upon Himself full humanity in order to save us. We have briefly considered the glorious truths that He came at all and that He came voluntarily confined in a human body. In that very real body, He became a substitute for us on the Cross. Since man had broken from God, only a man could take our places to bring reconciliation. Because Jesus is also fully God, He became a perfect substitute, a perfect sacrifice for us. Why did Jesus come? He came to die a unique death, a death that included separation from God the Father (Matthew 27:46). What is more personal than the Person Himself? Jesus, flesh and blood, willingly substituted and sacrificed Himself to provide us with the offer of eternal salvation. May each one of us be sure that we belong to Him, and may we rejoice that we are now partakers of His “unsearchable riches.”
