Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Revelation 19:12c says of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, “And He had a name written, that no man knew, but He Himself.” In Scripture, “name” is used as a revelation of one’s character. Thus, this passage is telling us that there is always more to learn about Jesus. Deuteronomy 29:29a states that there are some things that we cannot comprehend: “The secret things belong unto the LORD our God.” Jesus specifically taught that we do not understand Him fully: “All things are delivered unto me of My Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father” (Matthew 11:27a). Logically, our finiteness limits our full understanding of infiniteness, and our Savior God is infinite in all of His attributes. Ephesians 1:21 reminds us that Jesus is “far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also that which is to come.” Daily, we are learning more about who Jesus is and how good He is to us. I find it exciting and exhilarating to know that there is even more to learn in eternity. Heaven is a place of peace, joy, and fellowship; it is also a place of great intellectual stimulation and growth. No one will ever be bored in our heavenly haven.
