Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
The eighth occurrence of “Almighty” in the New Testament is found in Revelation 19:6. In the King James Version, this Greek word, which means “the One Who has His hand on everything, is translated here as “omnipotent”: “And I [John] heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, “Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.” This doxology precedes the passage that celebrates the heavenly “marriage supper of the Lamb” (verses 7-9). It is an awesome picture of eternal fellowship and joy, made even more astonishing by the fact that “the One Who has His hand on everything” chooses to employ that hand to provide an ongoing feast for His Church. It is appropriate that on this Thanksgiving Day (and I did not plan this passage to line up with this holiday) we are reminded of a greater and better day of thanksgiving to come – an eternal day.
