Putting the I into WISDOM

The Christians who have most influenced me for good have had a fully functional familiarity with the book of Proverbs. They were (and are) able to take their considerable knowledge and apply it to their lives, providing both godly examples and godly advice. Join with me as each of us endeavors to put the I into WISDOM. Let us seek to exemplify God’s wisdom in our daily lives. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

When we consider the power of words, it is logical to think of the almighty power of the Word of God. Proverbs 30:5-6 both warms and warns, “Every word of God is pure: He is a shield unto them that put their trust in Him. Add thou not unto His words, lest He reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.” Three key thoughts are expressed here. First, God’s words must be “pure,” for they are consistent with His character. Second, His words are “a shield” for believers, especially in the sense of defending us from the insidious and invidious invasion of falsehood. Third, His words cannot be improved upon (verse 6). For example,    I John 1:10 says, “If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.” We are sinners in need of a Savior – the Savior Who is called the Word (John 1:1, 14). Hebrews 1:1-2 states absolutely, “God, Who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son.” It is wise to let God have the last word.
