Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Some time ago, we studied the great invitation of the Gospel message: “Come.” The words of Revelation 22:17 present this same kind call: “And the Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come.’ And let him that heareth say, ‘Come.’ And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely [without cost].” An integral part of the ministry of God the Holy Spirit is to draw us into an eternal, saving relationship with God the Son, Jesus Christ: “He will guide you into all truth” (John 16:13b). “The bride” is the Church: our message must match that of the Holy Spirit. The expression “him that heareth” refers to the local congregations to whom John wrote (Revelation 2-3) and by extension to each local congregation today. What is true of the Church in general must be true of the individual church specifically. We must preach and teach about salvation through faith in Jesus, and we must invite people to come into an everlasting relationship with Him. Anyone can respond to this invitation, and some certainly “will.”
