Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Our Savior God kindly considers our concerns about the future and promises to return for us: “Behold, I come quickly” (Revelation 22:7a). However, since we are “prone to wander” (as an old hymn states), we can drift away from this prophetic teaching. Another factor that besets us is complacency. We become comfortable with God’s goodness – and He is always good – to the point that we lose the wonder of His personal solicitude. Our worship services can easily replace adoration with entertainment, a trend that many concerned Christians have noted. Our prayer lives can be perfunctory, and our interest in learning from God’s Word can wane. However, if we believe what the Bible says, that the return of Jesus is our “blessed hope” (Titus 2:13), we will want to be blessed and be a blessing; and we will live in hope and share and spread hope with others. We are to be a people of anticipation and expectation, knowing that “in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye…we shall be changed” (I Corinthians 15:51).
