Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
“Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, [Who] was, and is, and is to come”(Revelation 4:8): this joy in heaven reminds us that the holiness of the Triune God is purely positive. This holiness assures us that our Lord is trustworthy and transparent, with nothing obscured or shrouded, “Who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts” (I Corinthians 4:5). Moreover, God’s holiness represents the paragon of perfection, the acme of attainment, the standard of saintliness. James 1:13 states, “Let no man say when he is tempted, ‘I am tempted of God’: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth He any man.” Yes, there are some things our Savior “cannot” do: He “cannot be tempted with evil,” cannot tempt “any man,” and cannot do anything that denies Who He is. Let us rejoice with the inhabitants of heaven that our Lord’s holiness is absolute and guarantees that He will always deal with us in holiness and righteousness.
