Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

“The Revelation of Jesus Christ” (1:1) gives us a compelling picture of Him in Revelation 14:14: “And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud One sat like unto the Son of man, having on His head a golden crown, and in His hand a sharp sickle.” The expression “the Son of man” is used eighty-four times in the New Testament to refer to Jesus and was Jesus’ favorite self-designation. It points to the fullness of His humanity, a necessity for Jesus to become a substitute for us on the Cross. Of course, Jesus was and is fully divine also, as the use of “the Son of man” in John 5:27 reveals: “[The Father] hath given Him [Jesus] authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of man.” Of course, only God can “execute judgment” of this sort, confirming that Jesus is God. The use of “white” indicates absolute moral purity, and the “cloud” is a symbol throughout Scripture for the immediate presence of God. “A golden crown” is a victor’s crown; clearly, the Victor is Jesus. I have a book in my library entitled The Coming World Leader. This title does not refer to the Antichrist. No, it references our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Who is coming back to reign.
