Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Jesus is eternal and thus has always existed in the past, as we saw by comparing Genesis 1:1 and John 1:1-3. Colossians 1:16 confirms, “For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him.” As we saw yesterday, evolution is both a Biblical and a scientific absurdity. Why then do so many scientists refuse to acknowledge the patently obvious scientific truth of creationism? The answer should convict all of us – pride. It is the last part of the above verse that causes a rejection of truth: everything was created “for Him.” Mankind naturally (sin-naturally) bristles at the idea that anyone could be superior to us. Sinful man rebels against the idea that “Thou hast created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are and were created” (Revelation 4:11). The thoughtful Christian instead humbly rejoices that Jesus finds “pleasure” in him! Why does pride within the scientific community expand nearly as fast as their proposed “Big Bang” hypothesis? The answer is found in part in Revelation 1:12-18. In response to this glorious revelation of the Savior, the Apostle “fell at His feet” (verse 17). However, some will refuse to bow down because they see themselves as saviors. Their delusion is so great that they will prefer to fall down under the weight of “mountains and rocks” (Revelation 6:15-17). This irrational pride is a tragic warning to each one of us.
