Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Yesterday, we briefly considered the curse of Genesis 3:17b-19 and the reversal of that curse in Revelation 22:3. Part of this curse included the advent of pain: “Unto the woman He said, ‘I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children’” (Revelation 3:16b). If you have ever been in or near a delivery room, you know that the word “greatly” is not an overstatement! Other pains are probably worse, though, for the birth of a child brings joy along with the short-term discomfort. Chronic pain over months and years is one sad result of mankind’s sin, one that seems to have no end. However, there is an eternal end to pain: “Neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away” (Revelation 21:4c-d). The eradication of pain is part – a most blessed part – of the eradication of the curse caused by sin.
