Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Jesus gives us hope. Hebrews 6:10-20 is one passage that delves deeply into this hope, which is a certainty that is based upon the character of our Savior. We know that Jesus must be the object of our “faith” (verse 10). We also know that Jesus is the object of our “love” (verse 12). Likewise, He is the object of our “hope” (verse 11). Verses 19 and 20 are specific in connecting “hope” with the “anchor of our soul,” the “forerunner” Who is “Jesus.” Thus, hope does not originate in us; if it did, it would be no more than occasional optimism. Because Jesus Himself is the object of our hope, “hope maketh not ashamed” (Romans 5:5). In other words, this hope does not disappoint us, does not deceive us. Like “an anchor,” this hope stabilizes us in a sea of uncertainty. Our hope in Jesus is not misplaced.
