Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Chapter 13 of “the Revelation of Jesus Christ” (1:1) has little specific information about Him, but Revelation 14 returns the focus to Him: “And I looked, and, lo, a [literally, “the”] Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with Him an hundred forty and four thousand, having His Father’s name written in their foreheads” (verse 1). The beauty of Jesus, His spiritual attractiveness, stands in absolute opposition to the crass and craven ugliness of the unholy triumvirate of Satan, the Antichrist, and the false prophet. The despicable despotism of chapter 13 is replaced by the beneficent presence of our Lord. Note that the 144,000 (which we met in chapter 7) are “with Him.” That means, of course, that He is with them. The promise of Jesus in Matthew 28:20b is absolute: “Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” He is with His people, and He will never abandon them, even at the literal “end of the world,” when everything will seem to be out of control.
