Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Jesus gives us hope. Both the giving and the hope are blessings. In Colossians 1:3-6, Paul writes, “We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints, for the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel; which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth.” Note, as we noticed in Hebrews 6:10-12, the joining of faith, love, and hope. Note also, as we have been stressing this week, that God reveals hope to us in His Word (“the word of the truth of the Gospel” and “in truth”). Moreover, this hope is part of “the grace of God.” In simple terms, grace is the giving of good things to us by God. One indication of His grace is hope, and one part of hope is the knowledge that God continues to give. Thus, we can rejoice equally in the grace of hope or in the hope of grace. We can be certain that our God will always be good to us.
