Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

The book of Genesis records the beginning of human history; the book of Revelation reveals the end of human history as we know it. A comparison of the two is certainly instructive. For example, Genesis 1:1 says, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” Revelation 21:1 states, “And I [John] saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.” We should note that the new universe and earth are not better than the first. God’s assessment of the original creation was that it was “very good” (Genesis 1:31), indicating that it was perfect. However, as we have studied frequently, man’s sin has corrupted the entire creation – a creation that was made in part for our residence and enjoyment. Our sin changed everything that was created: “For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now” (Romans 8:22). God’s promise is that “the creature [creation] itself shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God” (Romans 8:21).The new universe and earth will fulfill this specific promise of our Savior God.
