Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

As we saw yesterday from Ephesians 4:15, Jesus is called the Head; in other words, He possesses all authority. His omnipotence derives from His full deity, as we find in Colossians 2:9-10: “For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in Him, [Who] is the head of all principality and power.” The full divinity of Jesus, God the Son, is a crucial and central teaching of Christianity. It is one of the great distinctives of Christian theology and separates our true faith from the heresy of cults that falsely believe that Jesus is inferior to the Father. Even in His full humanity (“bodily”), Jesus retained “the fulness of the Godhead.” Of course He did, for God cannot cease to be God. The basis of Jesus’ authority, then, is intrinsic to His very nature: He cannot be anything other than the Head of all things.
