Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

As we approach Easter, we remember that Jesus is called “a Lamb as it had been slain” (Revelation 5:6). The designation “Lamb” or “Lamb’s” is used 28 times in the book of Revelation of Jesus. Each time, we are reminded of His sacrifice on the Cross for us. I frequently mention Luke 9:51: “And it came to pass, when the time was come that He should be offered up, He stedfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem.” Jesus, God the Son, came to earth to die in our places; He is “the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world” (Revelation 13:8). When He walked this earth, He knew that Jerusalem would be the precise place of His death. Yet, He kept walking “stedfastly” to that city which would slay Him. Such strong love must be divine – and it is lavished upon us, the very sinners who caused the death of the Savior.
