Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Before we move to another subject, I want to add one more point to the thought that Jesus wants us to lead quiet and peaceable lives (I Timothy 2:2-3). Perhaps you have heard the story of a man who hobbled into the physician’s office and shouted, “Doctor! Doctor! I broke my leg in three places!” The laconic medico replied, “Well, stay out of them places.” Yes, it is a lame joke, but it does illustrate the fact that there are places which do not promote our overall well-being. On the other hand, there are places of sanctuary that are beneficial to us. Perhaps you have a favorite nook in your home or a scenic spot outdoors that encourages serenity. God gives us these places of refuge to renew our strength. Certainly a place of worship functions to calm us. Likewise, any personal place of prayer or Bible study is God’s gracious provision to us to help fulfill His great desire for us to live quiet and peaceable lives.
