Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

The love of God sweeps over everything, including us: Jesus has “loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood” (Revelation 1:5). Thus, “the Revelation of Jesus Christ” (1:1) is a revelation of love. The message to the church in first-century Sardis, also a message to us, is a powerful statement of saving love: “He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before My Father, and before His angels. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches” (3:5-6). We should note that these comprehensive calls to all churches include overt Trinitarianism, for we worship One God in Three Persons. We should further note the powerful statements of full forgiveness: “white raiment” (compare Isaiah 1:18), our names clearly written in God’s “book of life,” and Jesus Himself acknowledging us as His own before God the “Father.” Philippians 2:11 says, “Every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” The Greek word for “confess” is the same in both verses, telling us that if we acknowledge Jesus as Savior He will indeed acknowledge us as His very own. This is love – love eternal.
