Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
“The Revelation of Jesus Christ” (1:1) tells us that He is coming again and that, when He comes, predicted events will happen with mind-boggling rapidity: “I come quickly” (22:7, 12, 20). That necessary judgment will ensue should not obscure the fact that Jesus loves. As He approached the city of Jerusalem – the very city that would crucify Him – “He beheld the city, and wept over it” (Luke 19:41). Earlier, He had proclaimed, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not” (Luke 13:34). These are words of love for unlovable, vicious people. Jesus offers a way out from His righteous judgment, but some reject that deliverance. “And ye would not” – are there any words more heart-rending than these? May we never spurn Jesus’ love. Instead, may we trust in Him for eternal salvation.
