Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Revelation 8:2-6 helps to explain, in part, the seeming silence of our Savior God. Here we have a picture of “the prayers of all saints” (verse 3) being brought directly to God. We should expect that the Triune Godhead is entirely engaged in hearing and answering prayer, and we are correct in that evaluation. As we studied on Saturday, Jesus Christ, God the Son, “ever liveth to make intercession” (Hebrews 7:25). Similarly, God the Holy Spirit is intensely and intimately involved in our prayer lives. Romans 8:26 offers these rich words of encouragement: “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit [Himself] maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” Romans 7:15-25 makes it clear that we are always in a spiritual struggle and thus always in need of the Spirit’s strength in our supplications. Right now – yes, today – the Trinity is harmoniously at work in and through our prayers. Such concentrated and comprehensive concord is a continuing encouragement to “continue in prayer” (Colossians 4:2a).
