Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Jesus Christ confronts, corrects, and counteracts our culture. His words and actions regarding this subject are especially encouraging. Often, the majority opinion – sometimes, the vast majority – is against us. Are we as Christians wrong or even crazy, as some suggest? No, we are not! First, we do not have to be in the majority. In Matthew 20:16, Jesus reminds us, “Many be called, but few chosen.” The sad truth is that, although salvation through faith in Jesus is available to all, only a relatively few choose to enter into an eternal relationship with Him. Just some decide to walk in God’s way. Second, we are kindly commanded in Romans 12:2, “Be not conformed to this world.” The “world” in this context means the system, led by Satan, that opposes God; in other words, it is the current culture that Jesus repudiates. Let us avoid the constant temptation to be like the crowd and instead stand with our Savior.
