Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

“The Revelation of Jesus Christ” (1:1) pictures “the prayers of all saints” arising “before the throne” of God (8:3-4). We are thus to pray for good things, as Jesus taught in Matthew 7:7-11. We learn in Ephesians 3:16 that we should pray “that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man.” Our three enemies – Satan, the sin nature, and the spirit of the world – are ferocious in their repeated assaults against us. We really need special strength to stand against these attacks, and the Bible makes it clear that prayer is crucial in this constant conflict. Jude 20-21 says, “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves in your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.” Thus, we are to pray for ourselves and for others that we will be strong in our faith. Without such supplication, we cannot be spiritually stronger. With such supplication, we can become more like our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
