Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Family love originates within the Trinity and was fully expressed throughout Jesus’ earthly ministry. From Scripture, we find that Jesus loves our families. In Matthew 15:3-6, Jesus commands us to honor our parents – and He does so vigorously, designating those who will not follow this fundamental family function as “hypocrites” (verse 7). In Matthew 18:1-6, Jesus uses the strongest possible language to warn those who would harm “these little ones” (verse 6). His regard for children is further revealed in Matthew 19:13-15, where He rebukes His closest disciples for their disdainful dismissal of “little children.” In Mark 10:4-9, Jesus forcefully denounces the casual attitude of the religious leaders regarding divorce, showing His high view of marriage. These are just a few of many examples that demonstrate the love of Jesus for families. May we thus honor what He honors.
