Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Often after Christmas, folks are more prone to discouragement and depression. In our part of the world, the long nights can contribute to these feelings, as can the often inclement weather. In Philippians 1:21, Paul writes, “For to me to live is Christ.” Yes, Jesus is a reason – a great reason – to live. Of course, non-Christians have reasons to live, as well. God’s common grace provides good things to all: “He maketh His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust” (Matthew 5:45). However, through faith in Jesus Christ, we are recipients of His uncommon grace, uncommon in that it changes everything in our lives. Jesus, the giver and sustainer of life (John 1:3-4; Colossians 1:16-17), becomes for the Christian not only  a reason to live but also the reason to live.
