Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

“The Revelation of Jesus Christ” (1:1) includes this promise from our Savior: “He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be My son” (21:7). It is always helpful to remember that our faith is based on facts rather than feelings. Most of the time, I do not feel like an overcomer. Instead, I frequently am overcome by sorrow, by sympathy for those who are suffering, and by sheer fatigue. The struggle against sin is real and everpresent. Such is the experience of God’s people. However, our everlasting relationship with Jesus is based upon the facts of the Gospel. I John 4:5 asks this rhetorical question: “Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?” Verse 4 has already provided the answer: “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” Because Jesus has overcome all things, it is a fact that each believer in Him is an eternal overcomer. Our certainty in Christ, then, is factually absolute, even when we are feeling inadequate.
