Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

“The Revelation of Jesus Christ” (1:1) reveals, as much as we can understand it, the transcendence of our Lord, His surpassing greatness and distinctiveness. As we studied Saturday from Deuteronomy 29:29, a profound Biblical truth is that finite man cannot fully comprehend our infinite God. Thus, we should not be surprised that some of the prophecies regarding the Tribulation are sealed up (Revelation 10:4). We read in Isaiah 55:8-9 that God states, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways…For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” This is not abstract theology, for with God character and action are perfectly matched. Thus, verses 10-11 provide an immediate and specific application: “For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: so shall My word be that goeth forth out of My mouth: it shall not return unto Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” We do not know all things, but we can be assured that God is always at work. Part of that grand plan is revealing to us what we must know to be saved through faith in Jesus Christ and to serve Him faithfully.
