Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
As we considered Saturday, we do not often know precisely what Jesus will do in our lives today. However, there are some things that He will always do. As we saw from Romans 8:1 and 38-39, He will love us. This love is not merely warm, deep affection for us (although it includes that). Romans 5:8 proclaims, “But God commendeth [demonstrates] His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Condemnation (Romans 8:1) becomes commendation, an open declaration and demonstration of the love of God. Here is powerful, irrefutable, Biblical logic: if Jesus loved us then, when we were “sinners,” “when we were enemies” (Romans 5:10) – and He did love us then, He died for us then – certainly He will keep loving us. Other relationships end, through death, distance, and differences (some of which are inexplicable). We hurt when these loves are no longer part of our lives. Even if others carelessly or callously walk away from us, our Jesus will still be loving us.
