Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
We return to Revelation 9 as we consider the full fairness of God the Son, Jesus Christ. Verse 6 is one of the saddest in Scripture: “And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.” How hard the human heart can become if the tender mercies of our Savior are spurned! What an overwhelming warning to all of us! Certainly no one begins life with death as the desired goal. How do some get to that tragic point? We all know that life can be hard, and there is no doubt that it will be significantly harder during the Tribulation period. A key factor in the despair of those days is the lack of hope. I Corinthians 13:7 states that “charity [active love] hopeth all things.” However, if we will not abide in this love of God, we will lose hope. Still even at that terrible time at the end of this dispensation, salvation is available, for “the seal of God” (verse 4) is real and can be obtained through a simple faith in Jesus. A wise person will not wait until the hardening process casts its deepening shadow of hopelessness.
