Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Just when we think that God cannot speak more than He has through nature, the conscience, and His Word, he continues His speech in a way that no one else could have thought of – He came in human form (fully human, of course) and spoke directly to us. Hebrews 1:1-4 presents the presence of Jesus amongst us as the climactic culmination of conversation. The very nature of Jesus, God the Son, is to speak aloud. John 1:1-5 calls Jesus “the Word.” Just as Jesus spoke the universe into existence (verse 3 and Genesis 1), He spoke authoritatively here on earth. Everything that He said had both immediate and eternal relevance. Because He is timeless, His words have the same power to us today. Jesus does not talk to us because He has to (like a job) but because He wants to. May we love His language that He has lavished upon us.
