Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
This week – what is often called Holy Week – we will move from Revelation to follow Jesus as He fulfilled His ministry. Mark 10:45 provides this soaring mission statement from our Savior: “For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give His life a ransom for many.” On Tuesday, He was teaching in the Temple and said in Mark 12:35-37, “How say the scribes that Christ is the son of David? For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, ‘The LORD said to my Lord, “Sit Thou on My right hand, till I make Thine enemies Thy footstool.” ‘David therefore himself calleth Him Lord; and whence is He then his son?” Jesus was of the lineage of David, in fulfillment of prophecy (II Samuel 7:16; Luke 1:31-33). However, in Psalm 110:1, David specifically called this descendant “my Lord.” No one in Israel was above King David – except God Himself. Thus, this coming Messiah (the meaning of “Christ”) had to be fully God. Jesus was pointing out to everyone that only He met these precise Scriptural requirements. The evidence fully supports His claims.
