Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
The voice of Jesus is universal, speaking to all people. It is also unique, speaking personally to each individual. Paul, following the model of Jesus, said in I Corinthians 9:22b, “I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.” Certainly the Apostle was not proposing that we become like the world in order to save the world; rather, we are to use our words carefully to best prompt serious reflection in those who are listening. As we considered on Saturday, some people are particularly drawn to Jesus because of the strong emotional appeal of His love. Others are especially moved by the example of a family member, friend, or mentor. One Biblical illustration (of many) is Andrew. In John 1:40-42, we find him bringing his brother Simon Peter to Jesus. Andrew’s years of credibility and integrity made Peter want to listen to his brother and, then, to Jesus. All of us can think of folks who directed us to Jesus. Let us cherish those dear ones and, in some cases, the precious memories of those now with Jesus. “Their works do follow them” (Revelation 14:13); Jesus continues to speak through their godly influence.
