Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

In Ephesians 3:14-16, Paul prays, “For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of Whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man.” This passage builds on “the unsearchable riches of Christ” that we studied last week from Ephesians 3:8. What immediately jumps out from these three verses is the Trinitarian teaching. We worship One God in Three Persons – Father, Son, and Spirit. Since God’s “glory” is the totality of His perfections, we must appreciate the Trinitarian richness of His character. He is different from us – blessedly distinctive. If God were like us – merely monopersonal – He would not be inherently relational. However, the eternal relationships within the Trinity assure us that God is personal – and that God the Son is our personal Savior. As we begin to search out the character of God, then, we are searching out “the unsearchable riches of Christ.”
