Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Jesus continues in His response to the illogical assault of the scribes that He cast out demons by using demonic power: “No man can enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man, and then he will spoil the house” (Mark 3:27). The “strong man” in this brief parable is Satan; since the scribes brought up Satan, Jesus again uses their own words to dismantle their assertion. The “house” is this present world, the domain of the devil’s darkness. The “goods” are human lives, immortal lost souls in need of eternal salvation. The simple point that Jesus is pointedly making is that only someone stronger than Satan could defeat him and deliver people from his grinding grip. Anyone capable of basic logic – and the scribes are certainly capable intellectually – would have to agree with the force and merit of His argument. Each Christian should find sincere solace and strength in I John 4:4b: “Greater is He [Who] is in you, than he [Satan] that is in the world.” God the Holy Spirit indwells each believer (I Corinthians 6:19; Romans 8:9-11)) and is far stronger than our evil adversary.
