Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Jesus is so good that He fills us with His fullness. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Ephesians 2:1 tells us that we “were dead in trespasses and sins.” Without Jesus, we are full of sin. We need His fullness instead. Colossians 2:9-10 says of Jesus, “For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in Him [Who] is the head of all principality and power.” This passage confirms that Jesus is fully God and thus perfect in all His ways. Without the full deity of Jesus Christ, not even one could be eternally saved. However, because He is fully divine, He can fill us with His perfection. “Complete” is from the same Greek root word as “fulness.” This usage certainly does not mean that we are God (for there is One God in Three Persons), nor does it indicate that we become gods. Rather, it attests that we become partakers of His perfection (II Peter 1:4), for “of His fulness have all we received, and grace for grace” (John 1:16). The fullness of His grace is now our portion, and we now possess spiritual resources that were previously unavailable to us (and in which we were uninterested). In days to come we will further explore this grand truth. For today, let us recognize the great transformation that Jesus has made in our lives, and let us rejoice that through faith in Jesus we “are complete in Him” regarding everlasting salvation.
