Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
We return to the celestial song of Revelation 15:3-4: “And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, ‘Great and marvellous are Thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are Thy ways, Thou King of saints. Who shall not fear Thee, O Lord, and glorify Thy name? For Thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before Thee; for Thy judgments are made manifest.’” The description of our Lord as “true” runs counter to the so-called emergent church, which does not believe that the Bible is the infallible, inerrant Word of God. Rather, they think that they know what Jesus would have said and would have done! These postmodernists reject the concept of absolute truth and, if we apply logic to their statements, reject the only place where we can learn the truth about Jesus – the Bible. The Word of God is a revelation from our Lord and is also a revelation of Him (“The Revelation of Jesus Christ” – Revelation 1:1). The truthful character of Christ and the truthful nature of the Bible are inseparable. For example, in John 14:6 Jesus made this absolute claim: “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no man cometh unto the Father but by Me.” Because this is an absolute claim, it is either absolutely true or absolutely false. Any middle ground crumbles beneath us and pitches us into the pit of hell (a real place, as Jesus, “the Truth,” clearly taught in Matthew 25:46 and as we find in Revelation 20:11-15). May we stand on the solid ground of the truth. There, we will stand firmly and forever.
